On October 25, 2025, the Chinese Composer Community (CCC) and the Composers Diversity Collective (CDC) proudly hosted a special online masterclass with Feng Mantian, one of China’s most celebrated ruan masters and National Class One Performer of the China National Traditional Orchestra.
In this inspiring session, Feng Mantian shared his lifelong exploration of traditional Chinese instruments — including the ruan, bianzhong, and bianqing — and demonstrated how their tonal colors can enrich modern film and media composition. He spoke about the deeper connection between music, nature, and philosophy, emphasizing that “music is not merely about pitch, but about harmony between humanity and the universe.”
Participants from around the world joined the session via Zoom, actively engaging with questions and reflections. Some of the highlights included:
•“How can young people today fall in love with the ruan?”
•“How, or with whom, did you study/apprentice to become a master at playing these ancient instruments?”
•“Do you have any recommendations for outstanding young Chinese traditional musicians today?”
•“How do you see the relationship between Chinese music, visual art, philosophy, and other art forms? How can we reflect traditional aesthetics through specific musical expression?”
•“Is the Russian influence due largely to the geo/political history?”
Audience member Libby Ward commented:
“Exquisite playing! What a wonderful collection — and thanks to the whole team.
Especially love the contemporary style playing — I collect records (on vinyl) worldwide of more rock/jazz expressions of folk/traditional instruments… but I don’t have any from China… yet!”
Another participant shared:
“It’s a beautiful connection with nature! Though not everyone explores it. Glad you’ve gone back to the roots and continue sharing your knowledge with others (especially us)”

2025 年 10 月 25 日晚，由 Chinese Composer Community (CCC) 与 Composers Diversity Collective (CDC) 联合举办的线上大师课圆满落幕。本次活动特邀中国著名阮咸艺术家、国家一级演奏员 冯满天 老师，为来自世界各地的影视作曲家与音乐创作者带来了一场深入探讨 中国传统乐器音色与当代影视创作融合 的大师讲座。
在讲座中，冯满天老师从阮、编钟、编磬等多种传统乐器出发，介绍了它们的历史渊源、音色特征及演奏方法，并展示了其在现代影视配乐中的表现潜力。他强调音乐不仅是音高的组合，更是一种人与自然、人与文化的精神连结。
活动过程中，观众踊跃提问与评论，互动气氛热烈。部分精彩问题包括：
